To get to the Manu National Park, our mobility will pick you up around 5 in the morning and we will go until we reach a small town called Huancarani. We will have breakfast and relax the body a little. Along the way we will stop at an archaeological center called Ninamarca, a Pre-Inca cemetery. Afterwards we will have Paucartambo as destination, we will walk through its historic streets and learn a little about its Catholic devotion.
Leaving Paucartambo behind, we will descend through the cloud forest, looking for animal activity. We will make some stops and walk along the road watching birds along the way. Some species of monkeys will be present feeding on fruits of fruit trees in the area.
We will rest in the bamboo lodge after a great day.
In the morning we will drive to the port of ATALAYA. At this point we will board our boat after having our lifeguard equipment ready. We will cross the Manu River almost all day, on the way we will find some families of capybaras that walk along the banks of the river in search of food. Alligators rest in the light for the purpose of warming their bodies. Birds such as long-billed gulls, woodpeckers, squirrel monkeys and capuchin monkeys are roaming the trees feeding or resting.
We will have lunch on the boat and almost in the afternoon we will arrive at the Casa Machiguenga lodge, owned by the Machiguenga indigenous community, its facilities are very comfortable and you will disconnect from any routine activity in the city.
Our guide will take you by boat to Lake Salvador, in this lake we will find a lot of wildlife activity. The otters are normally fishing or resting in the sunlight, on the other side on the shores of the lake, very camouflaged, alligators are looking for some nearby prey.
If you look towards the trees, we will find some species of monkeys jumping from tree to tree. We will observe all this wildlife while we travel the lake on a raft, silently keeping an eye out for any movement.
In the afternoon, we will walk near the Machiguenga Lodge, looking for medicinal plants that the inhabitants themselves use to cure their illnesses. We will make use of some of these plants, and discover their healing properties. We will spend the night at the Machiguenga Lodge.
In the morning we will navigate the Manu River towards the Papaya lodge. On the way we will continue to be attentive as many animals will appear on the banks of the river. Birds are the most abundant, the morning is perfect for them and they take advantage of feeding. Some alligators will be on the banks of the river and if we are very lucky the jaguar will be walking near the river looking for food.
Almost at night, we will arrive at the Papaya Lodge, after settling in and resting a bit, we will walk along a path until we reach the Tapir clay lick. It is very likely that we will see this animal feeding on the mineral properties that the earth provides. We will be very quiet to better appreciate this species.
We will spend the night at the Papaya Lodge.
After a nutritious breakfast, we will say goodbye to the Manu National Park, and we will return to the city of Cusco. Along the way we will still have the opportunity to observe some birds and some primates. We will have lunch on the way, to then finally transfer you to your hotel in the city of Cusco.
